A unique, first of its kind

Equine Facilitated Integrative Healing

Module 1

The purpose of this program is to provide a unique environment for nurses and others to learn about their true nature through “The Way of the Horse”. Robbie Nelson demonstrates connection.Equine Facilitated Integrative Healing is a holistic approach to the development of emotional fitness skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, energy systems awareness/assessment, stress management and spiritual growth through partnership with horses.

Equines are consummate partners in the field of human growth and development. Through their ability to reflect inner states of being, they guide us to a place of balance and harmony, grounded in our body. Learning authenticity, leadership, self-confidence, courage, and how to be present, are some of the emotional fitness skills inherent in this experience. Equine Experiential Learning is a process of self- growth and empowerment. Upon completion of all 3 modules, you will be certified to co-facilitate EFIH with your clients.

Charlie McGuire “Dances with Horses”    Charlie and Cody are demonstrating one kind of “Reflective Round Pen” work which will be experienced in this program. EFIH offers tools to explore one’s feelings and how to be congruent with these feelings. This is core to one’s authenticity which is then carried into relationships, life and practice. Being congruent means being present in your body, mind, spirit and emotions. This is key to health, wellness and a joyful presence in one’s life.

This program was conceived by Charlie McGuire, MA, RN, founder of the American Holistic Nurses Association, and Robyn Nelson, OTR, co-founders of the Buffalo Woman Ranch.  For several years now the Ranch has offered workshops and personal retreats using the Epona Approach as taught by Linda Kohanov, author of The Tao of Equus and Riding Between the Worlds.  Both Charlie and Robbie are Epona Advanced Instructors and the Ranch senior staff,  Wren Breedlove, P.T. and Teri Capozzola, BSN, RN,  have also graduated from the Instructor Program, designed by Linda Kohanov and Kathleen Barry Ingram, at the Epona Equestrian Center at Apache Springs, AZ.

The Shoshoni-Kawaayo School of Horse Mysticism:

Horses as Spiritual Masters

Dates are pending - the Mastery School will be taught as the advanced level modules for our certification program.

The Buffalo Woman Ranch is expanding the Horse Medicine Mastery School by introducing a “Horse Mysticism” program, Horses as Spiritual Masters.

In this paradigm the horses are teaching the horse tribe about living and being in a new consciousness. They are facilitating our growth and expansion as we are remembering stillness, being and presence. The Way of the Horse was created to nurture those who are choosing a spiritual relationship with horses.

The program is held on our 50 acre ranch, dedicated to White Buffalo Calf Woman in honor of the spiritual teachings she offered to the Lakota people and the personal guidance she has given to us. Many sacred beings here inspire and support us with their wisdom. Our late Hopi Grandmother, Carolyn Tawangyama, Shoshone (a rescued mustang that was buried here), our spirit walker colt “Dorcha”, and other horse ancestors and guides are some of our cherished helpers.

Robbie and Charlie began this journey into Horse Medicine by apprenticing with Linda Kohanov and Kathleen Barry Ingram 4 years ago, learning and practicing the Epona approach of ‘Equine Experiential Learning’.

We knew this was ‘our work’ and have been pursuing this Way of the Horse ever since. Our herd has had a significant metamorphosis, as have we, in this process. Over the past several years we have watched them flourish; healing from their past abuses and stepping into their roles as “Way showers” in human growth and development. Some arrived at the ranch with deep knowing of themselves, others were able to emerge only after being “seen”, and treated with open hearts and minds. Our herd has shown us that they are a  “Bridge Herd”. Being stilled in assisting the connection between horse and human mind they function as a bridge between worlds. Ultimately their work is to help human beings to touch the essence of themselves that enables us to be one. This profound herd is also working as a horse bridge herd helping folks get ready to explore other realms with a gypsy cob herd in UT. The Gypsies are already masters of spiritual development, and work at an even deeper level in assisting the development of consciousness.

Our program is about Self Mastery.  As we remember our connection with Source, which involves the dissolution of the ego-mind, we have access to our intuition. We will offer experiences which will facilitate this development of inner awareness and intuitive communication. We will also focus on alternative healing modalities (applied to our equine partners), energy awareness practices and the Epona model of reflective round pen work. Ceremonial practices and living in authentic community are an integral part of the entire program.

The concept of “uniarchy” will be explored – the balance of the sacred masculine and feminine energies within us and on the planet that enables us to create from an unlimited place.

There will be 4 sessions per year, 5 full days each, including a segment which involves our traveling to your ranch/home to work with you and your horse-human relationships.

Unit 1:  Opening Up to Receive
t Connecting Inwards- Developing our intuitive skills
t Releasing blocks to the creative/intuitive process
t Energy awareness/body scan as it relates to our communications/interrelationships
t Energy anatomy of horses
t “Horse Council”- calling in our spirit guides/helpers as we sit with horses
t Learning Horse Speak- or listening with new ears, seeing with new eyes as we interact with our equine partners

t Learning what is interesting to horses.
t Round pen sessions to: 1) Transmute blocks to our intuition and
                                      2) Open up the Chalice of receiving
t Practice sessions in how you receive/perceive information from the horses
t Understanding the Medicine Wheel - what directions/elements are most prominent in your life, in your herd and how to establish/maintain balance
t Development of leadership skills based on experiential work with horses

Unit 11: Understanding the Connection and Energy Awareness Between Horse/Human
t Refinement/practice with interpreting horse language /communication
t Demonstration and practice with Cranial sacral holds/treatment with equines
t Teaching in the use of homeopathy/herbs for acute injury/trauma/first aid
t Energy medicine as it applies to equines; i.e.-
Chakra balancing /emotional trauma release techniques
Flower essence preparation and use/homeopathy for emotional balancing
Instruction in manual muscle testing for horses
t Further practice in round pen facilitation
t Wu Wei time with the horse- practicing the art of non-doing
t Observing herd relationships

Unit 111: Moving into other Realms of Awareness with the Herd
t Advanced energy awareness sessions - reading our energy as well as that of our herd
t Ongoing practice in Horse Speak/animal communication skills

t Equine Assisted Healing – exploration of the science and application of horses as healers
t Development of a "therapy herd" /what does that entail?
t Facilitation of the Spiritual development of horses - discussion of how we have explored this process, how we receive and work with the information from individual horses regarding their spiritual path. Some horses (as with
people) are quite content to do their job, nothing more. That is important to understand and respect. Certain herds do specific kinds of work, as with our aforementioned "Bridge Herd."

Unit IV: Bridging to Other Herds
(human- horse partnering)
This involves travel to the participant’s place of residence to spend time (~4 days) with them and their horse/s. Individual participants will be responsible for travel costs and accommodations. (If there are no personal horses involved for a particular participant, Unit IV will be provided at the Buffalo Woman Ranch as an Intensive).

This process will involve facilitation of a Vision Quest with your horse as well as further integration of the Mastery course material/practices with your horse/herd.  This may also include identifying your herd’s spiritual path and what kind of healing energy they enjoy giving and/or receiving.

There are many patterns/types of horse teachers/archetypes in the physical and non-physical realms. These will be explored during the Mastery course and re-visited in relationship to your personal experiences with horse medicine.

As in the ancient way of apprenticeship this course is ongoing for one year. We will share and continue the curriculum process via a “chat room” and monthly conference calls. Homework will also be required throughout the course which will be reviewed and commented on by the facilitators. The homework will be Earth comprehensive which will reflect the cycles of the moon and seasonal changes.

We practice living in authentic community which is an ongoing ceremony of life and living in harmony with the earth and our global community.
